The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Kabiru Bala, yesterday inspected and test-ran the tractor allocated recently to the institution on gratis by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The tractor, which was donated to the University with four other implements ( a plough, a harrow, a ridger and a trailer), was given specifically to "promote agricultural extension services" in the institution and the nation at large.
The vehicle was presented to the Vice-Chancellor for inspection and test-run at a brief ceremony right in front of the Senate Building by the University Transport Officer, Malam Shuaibu Halilu Ahmed, who took delivery of the tractor from the Ministry.
Prof Bala expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono, for the allocation.
The Vice-Chancellor, who described the gesture as "timely and well received", assured the Ministry that the tractor would be judiciously used in the promotion of agricultural extension services as requested.
The event was in the presence of Director, Directorate of University Advancement, Prof Ahmed Doko Ibrahim (now newly elected Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration); and Executive Director, Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Prof Muhammad Faguji Ishaku.
Others were Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Malam Auwalu Umar; Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwalu Yusuf Mohammed; and the University Transport Officer, Malam Shuaibu Halilu Ahmed.
